Abstract

The relevance of the chosen research topic is due to the problem of educating students in the modern educational system of higher education and the new requirements of educational standards for the labor functions of university teachers. The modern formulation of the issue of education is closely connected with the transformational processes in Russian society in the nineties of the twentieth century, which led to an absolute change in the system of life guidelines and values among the younger generation. The egocentric, mercantile, consumerist attitude to reality among today's youth has become a direct threat to the existence and development of our society. Therefore, at present, the focus of attention of society as a whole, and the educational policy of the Russian Federation, in particular, on the process of educating young people suggests that solving this problem has become an urgent need for modern society. The processes of education and upbringing are so connected, intertwined in their symbiosis, that the teacher in his classes, in fact, instinctively, automatically participates in the educational process. At the same time, each university develops its own strategy of educational work with students. The study presents the results of a survey of 670 1–3 year students of the Vladivostok State University of Economics and Service (VSUES) in the autumn semester of 2021/22. The purpose of the study is to analyze the results of a survey of VSUES students about the life guidelines of modern students. The results of the study revealed the value orientations of VSUES students, which force them to declare a problem in the education of modern youth: unwillingness to participate in public life, problems with an adequate perception of the concept of "patriotism", addiction to computer games and gadgets, communication in social networks, and not "live" and etc. Different points of view on the understanding of the goals, objectives and methods of educational work by universities make such work ineffective and most often formal. It is necessary to create, implement and base the educational activities of the university on unified scientific and methodological approaches. Today, the education of young people in higher education is a fundamental condition in the preparation of a new type of university graduate, who is a competitive integral professsional personality with an extensive potential for personal and professional competencies.
